News and rumours summary
As the STCC season gets closer and closer the teams are getting ready. The rumours and changes are many, here follows a short summary of the latest rumours regarding the coming STCC 2006 season.
Mörth to Volvo?
Pontus Mörth seems to get the second Volvo seat. Mörth drove in the Danish championship previously for Volvo. “I´ve had a good relationship with Volvo and worked for a drive in DTC or STCC. Now I have the right conditions and it looks better than ever before,” Mörth said to STCC.se. And as Volvo Denmark have pulled their official backup from the Danish championship STCC looks to be set for Mörth.
Three Audis?
Rumours indicate that Audi could field three cars this year. Tommy Kristoffersson and Fredrik Ekblom could get company from previous double STCC-champion Roberto Colciago. Recently Kristoffersson and Colciago were in Spain testing the A4 before the coming season.
“I have no comments on the team line up, but STCC is a hot and interestning for my part, Ekblom said to STCC.se. Another driver also rumoured for the third Audi-seat is former BMW-driver Thed Björk who recently parted from WCR.
Frid first confirmed privateer
Joakim Frid is the first privateer to enter the STCC 2006 season officially. Frid will drive a BMW 320i and is so far alone to compete for the 250.000 kronor prize money pot that are avalible for privateers only. “I see this as a new challenge and it will be real fun to compete in Sweden again,” Frid said to STCC.se
Only one Accord?
Rumours indicate that the Honda-team will focus on Engström and his Accord instead of running two cars. The Civic that Jens Hellström drove last year is avalible for privateers this season and will not be with the official team.
Second Peugeot still avalible
IPS Motorsport is still looking for a driver with the right budget to drive their second car. Two Peugeot 407 are ready, Stureson will drive one of them while many drivers have tried to get budget to drive the second. Robin Rudholm and Petter Granlund have both tried to get the seat, but failed. Time is running out for the second car as the deadline for the team to get the car ready for the approaching season is coming closer.
