Chilton fastest at Brands

Tom Chilton has taken pole position for tommorow’s opening round of the BTCC at the circuit of Brands Hatch. Reigning champion Matt Neal will start from last of the grid after crashing in his first outlap. Neal’s car suffered a rare brake failure and nearly tipped over when it spun into a gravel trap at the Druids hairpin bend.

Second on the grid will be Jason Plato in his Seat Leon, just in front of his teammate James Thompson, who also drives the Leon in the WTCC.

Fourth on the grid tommorow will be Colin Turkington, who returned to MG after one year at Vauxhall. The new man at Vauxhall, Fabrizio Giovanardi, was just over a tenth slower than Turkington, claiming 5th place.
