BMW ready for Mantorp
Rudi Gmainer from BMW Motorsport is confident that there will be BMW dominance at Mantorp. So far this season there has been little BMW success yet with the best BMW driver being newcomer David Björk in sixth position.
– We have been in the top all the time, but we have messed it up in the pits. We must focus now and get the positions we deserve, Gmainer said to STCC.se.
Despite having seven BMW’s on the grid, of which three are brand new E90, the German manufacturer had hoped for a better start. Instead the FWD-cars of Audi, Honda and Volvo have pulled ahead.
– You can’t say that the new car isn’t faster. It is about tenths. We have developed the old car during eight years. The new car is run by teams that have done little testing, We are developing the new car all the time and it will be faster and faster as the season progresses, Gmainer continued.
For the coming race at Mantorp this weekend, BMW-driver and current champion Richard Göransson is more than ready.
– It is time now. If we miss another race and score low it is going to be tight. There are no margins now as there is so few points left to drive for. We have to be greedy now. I’m going to take that stunning trophy at Mantorp, Göransson said.
Göransson will get hard competition from another BMW-driver – Robin Rudholm. He drives the older version of the BMW 3-series – the E46. Rudholm was leading both of the two first races this season, but has lost out due to one crash and one mistake by the team.
– The goal for this race is the same as for Knutstorp and Gelleråsen. I will push maximum each time I get in the car. Mantorp has always been a good track for me. We have done some testing at Falkenberg and I feel that it is time for race now, Rudholm said.
