No Sandström at Falkenberg
Edward Sanström is forced to miss the coming STCC-round at Falkenberg. The 27-year old BMW-driver crashed hard at Mantorp Park, wrecking his BMW 320i. Sandström is gutted over missing this race.
– It’s really bad. The crash it self was serious, but I have put that behind now. It’s all the stuff after which is hard, to realize how much that actually was destroyed and how hard it is to get a new car, Sanström said.
The team has worked hard to get funding for a new car. But even if the team had the money, they would be unable to get a new car.
– The car was totally destroyed and it would take about 250.000 Euro to get a new car. But even if we had the money BMW-Motorsport would not been able to get one ready for us in time, team owner Janne “Flash” Nilsson said.
– BMW are competing in many championships and are having trouble getting spare parts even for the new cars. Edwards crash could not have come at a worse time, Nilsson continued.
Team owner Nilsson cannot remember a more expensive crash in his 25 year long racing career. As for the coming races – the team does not have a spare car, so there is no option for Sanström but to wait. But the team makes no secret of that the plan is to buy a new car from BMW Motorsport.
– That is correct. Every one in the team feels for Edward and if we must work 24/7 to get a new car for him, we will do it. It ain’t over until the fat lady sings, team owner Nilsson said.
