First ever sequential BMW 320si
Flash Engineering will be the first team to equip a BMW 320si with a sequential gearbox. The team will have the car ready for the coming STCC race at Gelleråsen.
“We are the first team in the world with this gearbox in this car. Now it will be a double victory,” team owner and driver Janne “Flash” Nilsson said.
Usually all BMW’s are run with 5-speed H-patternd gearboxes which enables them to carry less weight to reduce the already high weight because of the rearwheel-drive. Thanks to a close co-operation with BMW Motorsport Flash Engineering is first with the gearbox and Nilsson is confident.
“With the H-gearbox you do a couple of gear misses on a race weekend and it costs alot of time. During the last race at Anderstorp I missed a gear and lost 3.2 seconds. During a race I got around 30% focus on getting the correct gear in, but with a sequential gearbox that won’t happen”, Nilsson said.
Nilsson will be the only driver with the sequential gearbox, Göransson will continue with the old gearbox. He will do one more race with that gearbox so that any problems are sorted out, something that Göransson is pleased with.
“It is so close in the championship. I’m only two points behind Thed Björk and I don’t want to risc anything. It has worked well so far with the H-gearbox,” Göransson said.
Another new thing for the coming STCC race weekend at Gelleråsen is that the super pole will be run on Sunday instead of Saturday.
