Göransson storms to Knutstorp pole
Richard Göransson stormed around the short and twisty Knutstorp track to take pole position. The qualifying order promises for a very exciting race, championship rival and leader Thed Björk took a very impressive second place on the grid despite carrying 60 kilos of penalty weight.
“I’m very pleased. The race will be exciting indeed with Björk just behind. I’m looking forward to the start,” Göransson said.
Göransson ignored the fact that the new BMW 320si is epspecially hard to keep the heat of the tyres in and made a very fine lap. But most impressive was Thed Björk who was only 0.05 seconds from pole despite carrying 60 kilos of extra weight.
“The lap was quite good and I am very happy with my position,” Björk said just after the super pole.
The race for the championship gets spiced up as rivals Göransson and Björk will start along side each other with Björk’s team mate Kristoffersson in third. Duncan Huisman on the other hand missed the super pole by only a tenth of a second. But starting from the back of the grid is nothing new for Huisman who took second place after starting dead last during the previous race at Gelleråsen.
The entire field was extremely close, as usual on Knutstorp. During the first qualifying session 16 cars were within one second and 12 cars were within 0.4 seconds. The entire super pole field, except for Rudholm who made a mistake on his lap, were within 0.2 seconds.
