Ekblom laying down his chances
Fredrik Ekblom has given up his hopes on a top three finish in the championship this year to help Thed Björk in the title race. If Ekblom had not let Björk past at Knutstorp he would still have a chance to challenge Huisman for third place.
“The gold must go to Kristoffersson Motorsport. Our mission is to see that Thed wins the championship,” Ekblom said.
Ekblom and Richard Göransson are the only drivers this year that have driven all Super Poles. Ekblom delivers as always. But too many mishaps on the circuits and in the pitlane has put the Audi-star out from the title fight this year.
“I would have needed a second place instead of a third place at Knutstorp to be able to challenge Huisman for third position in the championship. Too bad that the opportunity went away at Knutstorp,” Ekblom said.
He let Björk past on the last lap and took a third place instead of a second place. If Ekblom would have taken second place instead of Björk it would have been seven points between Björk and Göransson in the title race instead of the current nine.
“There is not much to say about it. We are going for the gold and for the team it has been a good season. For my own part it hasn’t gone as I and the guys on car number six have hoped for. But focus now is on taking gold in the drivers and manufacturers championship,” Ekblom said and added:
“It would be strange if Thed won’t be able to settle things at Mantorp keeping in mind that he has both me and Tommy Kristoffersson as backup.”
