Jens Edman moving to STCC?
Previous STCC-star Jens Edman has been driving in the Danish championship for four years. As we reported in a separate article his Peugeot team is leaving the Danish series. “We are looking on a move to STCC,” Edman said.
The official Peugeot factory team is closed down, but the development of the cars in Slangerup is taken over by Jørgen Agergaard who will continue running the cars.
Edman drove for Toyota one year in DTC and for Peugeot in three years. The decision that Peugeot leaves DTM does not come as a surprise for Edman.
“I’ve seen it coming. But I feel sad for the team and the mechanics.”
Edman competed successfully in STCC between 1997 and 2001. In his last season he finished third for Volvo in the championship. For next year a come back could be on the way.
“We have been in contact with several teams. The championship has grown amazingly during last year, more drivers, teams and spectators. The standard in STCC is incredibly high and I notice that internationally the championship gets more attention. That is inspiring of course.”
Edman was unable to drive the last part of the season due to a violent crash which injured his back. But that does not stop him from planning the coming season.
“I will be in a race car next season. The back is much better now and since a month back I’m training hard to get back.”
Currently it stands between DTC and STCC for the Swede.
“The most important thing for me is that I am in a good car and get the right opportunities to fight for the championship. If it will be DTC or STCC remains to be seen,” Edman said.
