Elton Goonan to STCC 2007?

Elton Goonan from New Zeeland is aiming for the Swedish Touring Car Championship next year. Previously Goonan has driven GT-cars and Caterhams in his home country.
“We are looking on a move to STCC,” Elton says. “And we’ve been in contact with some teams. The championship has grown amazingly during last year, more drivers, teams and spectators. The standard in STCC is incredibly high and I notice that internationally the championship gets more attention. For a driver, thats certainly exciting”

Plans were made for him to make his STCC-debut in 2006, but the budget was not ready in time. For 2007 things are looking better.

“I want to be in a race car next season. The budget is coming together now and where about half way through getting the support needed.”

“The most important thing for me is that I am in a good car and get the right opportunities to fight for the championship,” Goonan said. “That’s why we are working hard to finalise his deal so he can get some testing underway before the winter sets in.”
