STCC looking for street race
Rumours about a street race in STCC have been circulating for many years without it actually resulting in an actual race. But TouringCarTimes have recently learned that a study has been ordered to look at the possibilities to arrange a street race in Gothenburg.
The study is said to look at the practical issues of such a race in Gothenburg and also study the environmental effects of a touring car race in a major city. It is unlikely to happen already in 2007 even if Gothenburg at the moment lacks a big sporting event in 2007.
The information about a race in Gothenburg is especially interesting. The business community and the politicians in the city have had an active cooperation that has given the city several major sporting events over the past 10 years.
STCC came close to stage a street race during the Super Touring era in the mid-90:s when a race in Stockholm was almost finalized but was turned down by the city for environmental reasons.
Next season STCC plans their longest season yet with 12 races at six or seven different tracks.
