STCC street race in Stockholm 2008
The Swedish Touring Car Championship organizers are planning a street race in the Swedish Capital Stockholm. The plan is to go ahead with the race next year or the year after. STCC chairman Thomas Lindskog is optimistic and estimates that around 100.000 spectators could attend the race according to Aftonbladet.
“Yes indeed, we will do this. But not this year. Our plans with a street race and our plans to develop STCC on the environmental side coincides in 2008. It is a multi-million arrangement but our organization have the capacity to take responsibility for this,” Lindskog said.
Previous attempts of a STCC-street race has failed, but now the organisers have a good dialogue with the authorities in Stockholm.
“We have a good dialogue with them. They got taste for it after the go-cart event,” Lindskog continued.
“Helsinki had 130.000 visitors during two days at their street race, without even a Finnish driver. I think we can do better than that.”
