The Rudholm – Göransson crash
The Swedish Touring Car Championship premiere ended abruptly for the two title candidates Richard Göransson and Robin Rudholm. During the qualifying session Göransson spun and Rudholm crashed in to Göransson’s stationary car.
“Absolutely dreadful, the race is over even before it has begun,” Göransson said after the crash. “I spun my car and then Rudholm came with full speed and crashed in to me. The car is completely wasted.”

Robin Rudholm was just as sad over the crash.
“It is very bitter right now. It is a blind corner and I barely saw Göransson’s car before it was too late. But I managed to spin my car before we hit which I think saved us both from a much more serious accident,” said Rudholm.

There were many questionmarks after the incident regarding the yellow flags. It seems that the yellow flag issued for the incident was shown in a hard place to see.
“I didn’t see a yellow flag at the entry of the corner. If it was a yellow flag later in the corner, I didn’t see it because I was trying to avoid Göransson’s car,” Rudholm said.
“If it was yellow flag it is Rudholm’s fault, if it was not it is the STCC-organisation’s fault,” said Göransson.
At first the steward penalised Göransson for not moving his car in a safe way from the track. But this decision was later removed and both drivers were found not guilty. Flash Engineering and WestCoastRacing now have a lot of work to do before the next race at Knutstorp in little less than two weeks.
