Special pitstop for Chevrolet
Chevrolet Team Sweden will have a different type of pitstop compared to the other teams. The rules in STCC states that each car must change at least two tyres during the race, replacing five wheel bolts on each wheel. Unlike the other cars in the STCC the Chevrolet Lacetti is only fitted with four wheel bolts on each wheel, creating a dilemma.
TouringCarTimes have learned that STCC now has given the team a dispensation. The car will be allowed to run in its current state, with four wheel bolts. But to compensate the fact that they have fewer wheel bolts compared to the other teams (five bolts per wheel) the STCC organisation has created special procedures.
The two wheels fitted on the Chevrolet going in to the pits will be fitted with six wheel bolts. The two extra wheel bolts are fake ones with no function other than being taken off. The wheels that the team is going to put back on the car is fitted with four wheel bolts, making it a total of ten wheel bolts for the team to handle – just as for the other teams.
The teams driver Nicklas Karlsson is happy with the solution.
– This is the best solution for us. Now we can just add two extra bolts to the wheel without having to modify the wheel hub, said Karlsson.
This solution will most likely cause some stir in the championship. Worth to note is that when Opel entered the Astra in STCC a couple of years a go it was fitted with one centre wheel bolt that they had to convert to the standard five bolt.
