Rudholm won his first STCC race
Robin Rudholm won his first ever Swedish Touring Car Championship race today at wet Anderstorp. The weather was the key for the day as the track was covered in rain just a few minutes before the start. Rudholm drove on wet tyres through the entire race.
“This is the top moment of my career! We have had a lot of bad luck this year but finally we made it. My team worked perfectly today, this is so great,” said a very happy Rudholm.
Another very happy man was Janne “Flash” Nilsson who started eleventh and finished second after putting on two slick tyres together with rain tyres after his pitstop.
“This was one of my hardest races ever, but I am very happy! It was very strange driving with tyres like this, but it quite worked,” laughed Flash and continued. “I must learn to qualify second instead and drive up to first!
Third was Thed Björk who briefly looked to be on the way to first place before the rain again came on to the track near the finish of the race.
“It was a really eventful race today. I had slick tyres on my front tyres in the end, it was a bit slippery but I am happy with third,” said Björk.
As the majority of the field started on slick tyres there were a lot of position changes in the start. Drivers on wet tyres, Rudholm, Flash, Dahlgren, all went quickly to the top of the field. Just as the track started to dry up, giving the drivers on slick tyres the advantage, in the middle of the race, another shower of rain hit the track.
The track was very slippery as many found out. Stippler, Lestrup, Andersson and Stureson were all eliminated in different accidents. Next up for STCC is the Norway round in two weeks.
