Richard Göransson closes in on Ekblom
Richard Göransson took an important step towards the title fight with Fredrik Ekblom after a win at Gelleråsen today. Göransson started third after Thed Björk and Tommy Rustad were moved down the grid.
“Fantastic! Now we’re really in the title fight. The race was excellent today despite me having the heaviest car of the field,” said Göransson.
Second was Fredrik Ekblom who was let past by his team mate Robin Rudholm who then settled for third.
“I drove a good race today. I could not really keep Robin’s pace today and I have to thank him for the two points I got from him. I am pleased, my lead in the championship is the same as before and we have one less race to drive,” said Ekblom.
Robin Rudholm made a fine drive through the field after having problems in the qualifying session.
“I am very pleased. After two DNF’s I was desperate to get a good result. Sadly my tyres were a bit too worn to challenge Göransson for the lead, therefore I decided to let Ekblom past for the team,” said Rudholm.
Tomas Engström who started from pole position had a grim race. The Honda-man took the lead from the start and was able to pull up a gap. Göransson then gained on him, but after the pitstop Engström still was in the lead. Sadly something broke in the engine and he had to add another DNF to his record.
Janne “Flash” Nilsson was another driver with a dark weekend. The BMW-driver was fifth when something broke in the drive train and he was forced to limp in to the pits and retire. Someone that might have been glad then was Robert Dahlgren who was very upset with Nilsson. The two had a hard fight and Nilsson muscled past in a decisive manouvre.
“It was incredibly ugly, if I get the chance I will get even. I understand that we are in the closing stages of the championship, but what he did was just aweful. If I had any respect for him, I lost it now,” said a very angry Dahlgren
The Flash Engineering driver was quick to reply:
“We made contact. It was hard, but who has said that hard is unfair. Dahlgren defended his position on the straight and eventually you have to get rough. We went along side each other in to the next corner and then I passed. STCC is a hard sport, Robert knows this, he just got a little updated on the subject,” said Nilsson.
Once again Dahlgren replied:
“If you can’t accept the fact that you don’t have the space you have to wait. He should have the routine, but apparently not the talent to do it and then he have to hit others,” said Dahlgren.
Dahlgren finished fifth ahead of Thed Björk in sith with Mattias Andersson who scored another points finish in his privately owned Alfa Romeo 156. Next race is at Knutstorp in two weeks.
