WestCoast Racing very disappointed
A Safety Car and a faulty lamp in the pit exit ruined the race at Knutstorp for the Tools BMW Dealer Team – WestCoast Racing. Fredrik Ekblom was third and Robin Rudholm fifth when the Safety Car was deployed.
“A red light in the pit exit that after the race showed to be faulty made me taking the wrong decision, not daring to get Ekblom in to the pits,” said team boss Dick Jönsson Wigroth.
“The lamp was red the entire lap and at Knutstorp we cannot see if it has happened anything around the track that makes the pitexit closed. Now we know that it was wrong that the red light was on, but we did not dare to take a chance then, something that was a mistake. It costed us a very good result with both cars,” Wigroth continued.
Championship leader Fredrik Ekblom was understandably unhappy with the situation that made him unable to pit and loosing a lot of places.
“I don’t think I have ever been so pissed during a race and I am still pissed over the decision not taking me in to the pits. We have gone through within the team how to act when the safety ar comes out, but we did not follow that then,” Ekblom said.
“Now I know that there was a red light lit in the pit exit for the entire lap when the safetycar came out and it should not have been lit. But earlier this year we went through the rule book to exactly know how to act and we should not have hesitated over going in to the pits,” Ekblom continued.
Robin Rudholm was also disappointed after the race since he felt that he had the pace to win. Robin was in the battle for the win before the safetycar was deployed and the red light also affected him.
“I felt that we did everything right that day. I was fastest in qualifying, made a good start and fastest lap. We made one mistake but you have to follow the order of the team,” said Rudholm.
