Stureson takes first pole of 2007
Johan Stureson secured his first pole position of the Swedish Touring Car Championship 2007 in his Peugeot 407.
“Excellent! The team has done a great job with the car and the lap was almost perfect,” said Stureson who was the only one breaking the 1:01 barrier. Second was reigning champion Thed Björk of Audi ahead of current championship leader Fredrik Ekblom.
Ekblom will start right ahead of his championship rival Richard Göransson.
“It was an ok lap, perhaps I could have pushed a bit harder. As for starting with Göransson on my outside, thats great. We are always hugging in the STCC,” Ekblom said with a smile.
Göransson who topped the first morning test was unable to match the lap of Ekblom.
“Fourth is ok but we have some things in the setup that we have to work on until the race,” said Göransson.
Robert Dahlgren who is second in the championship was nowhere near the top and will have to start from eleventh on the grid.
Robin Rudholm was the best bio-ethanol driver in fifth position while Janne “Flash” Nilsson in the other bio-ethanol BMW only starts twelfth.
“We have some adjustments still to make. But the qualifying lap was ok and I think we have a good race,” said Rudholm.
Frank Stippler was last of the Super Pole-drivers as he made a mistake coming in to the hairpin, going off the track briefly.
The race starts at 15.00 CET.
