The STCC goes street race in 2008
As TouringCarTimes reported in december: The Swedish Touring Car Championship looks set to run a street race in the second largest Swedish city Gothenburg next year. The championship organizers and the city officials are are working hard to get the race up and running for the summer of 2008.
“All conditions are there to go through with a motorsports event of world class in Gothenburg. A unique combination of a suitable track layout, the well known skill of Gothenburg as an event city and the large number of people connected to the auto industry,” said Göran Johansson of the Gothenburg city council.
The race will be held right in Gothenburg in the docks. At the “Frimanspiren” a 1800 meter long track will be made, meeting all Swedish and international safety requirements.
The race will have a “green” focus and be combined with a festival week.
“The quality measures of STCC for a greener racing series have made it possible to make an arrangement. The STCC is today in the top line of the world’s motorsport when it comes to environment quality,” said STCC MD Bob Huzell.
