Göransson inspects STCC street race

The first ever street race for the Swedish Touring Car Championship is looking more and more ready. Top STCC-drivers Richard Göransson and Robert Dahlgren from the teams Flash Engineering and Poelstar Racing visited the scene in Gothenburg and left the track very enthusiastic.
“This will be insanely good, it will be a great show for the spectators,” said Göransson.

The race is still not officially confirmed, but according to our reports looking very likely to be run sometime in June of 2008. The track will be able to host over 30.000 spectators and hosts some very interesting corners.

“As it looks now the track will be the best in Sweden. We enter the “stadium arena” in over 200 km/h and there are some corners that really will sort out the brave drivers. We have six to seven different combinations that will require big balls to dare to go fast through,” said Göransson.

The track is situated at the docks of Gothenburg, very close to the city center. While many are enthusiastic for the race, many voices have criticized the race for bringing a track that will leave out all overtaking opportunities, as common for street races.

“That will not be a problem here. There are at least two really good places for overtaking. The best one is the hairpin that is 16 meters wide and can easily have four cars abreast, with several lines that are fast through it,” said Göransson.
