No more Mercedes for Tobias Johansson

Tobias Johansson will not continue driving his privately owned and build Mercedes C-Class in the Swedish Touring Car Championship 2008. He has sold one of his cars to Germany and is aiming to buy a new car.
“We have our current sponsors on board for the new project, so it feels more right to aim for this now,” said Johansson to STCC.se.

A couple of months ago Johansson announced that he was going to build new cars based on the new C-Class model. But this is not the case any more.

“We have been in contact with Mercedes to get factory support in the process of building the new car. But things went too slow and now we are out of time,” said Johansson.

What car Johansson will buy is still not clear. Rumors have it that he could buy a Vauxhall Vectra from the British Touring Car Championship.

“We are looking at finished cars but today I don’t know what it will be. It would have been nice to build and develop a car, but then you need support from the factory. The development of STCC is so fast today that without manufacturer support you don’t stand a chance,” said Johansson.
