Gothenburg street race officially launched

The previously announced STCC street race of the city Gothenburg had its official press conference today. The race will take place on 13-14th June.
“This will be a racing festival that we have not seen in Sweden for a long time. It is very inspiring to work with this project,” said Thomas Lindskog who is project manager of the race.

The place for the race is called “Eco Drive Arena” and can take 30.000 spectators. The track it self is 1650 meters long with the longest straight being approximately 650 meters.

The race will have a clear focus on the environmental issues, as one can tell by the name “Eco Drive Arena”. All cars taking part in the race weekend will run on environmentally classed fuel, local transport is included in the ticket price and the organisers will compensate environmentally for both spectators and participants.

“The event is unique in that matter. The entire event will be focused on the environmental issue and the car industry. The arena will for instance be used for education for “Eco Driving” for the rest of the year,” said Lindskog.

The circuit layout has been changed in some details from the first released version. The chicane on the main straight is removed, the run to the first hairpin has been smoothened and the corners before the final chicane have been reduced. The two hairpins at each end of the track are reported to be made with the hairpin at Hockenheim as base. In other words: very wide in and out, promising good overtaking possibilities.

Along side the STCC-class three support classes will take part in the event. Carrera Cup, JTCC (Junior) and Camaro Cup.
