Fabrizio Giovanardi strikes again in race two

There was no stopping the reigning champion Fabrizio Giovanardi in the second race of the day at the BTCC premiere at Brands Hatch. The Italian took his second victory, lights to flag, this time ahead of Gordon Shedden in the Team Halfords Honda Civic in second and Jason Plato third.

While Giovanardi kept his lead for the whole race, things got worse for Mat Jackson who at first looked set for second place. But after a safety car period Jackson was unable to keep second and was passed by Shedden and Plato.

Darren Turner rounded out top five in his SEAT, putting the fastest lap of the race, showing the strong form of his team.

Behind the top a number of incidents happened during the race. Tom Chilton retired after a clash with Colin Turkington. The Team RAC-driver on the other hand managed to continue and took a strong eight place after starting 20th.

Things went worse for the other BMW-team, Motorbase, as both cars retired. Robert Collard was out after a clash with Stephen Jelley. Team mate Steven Kane went out of the race in a more spectacular way. The BMW-newcomer crashed backwards in to the pit wall after a coming together with Jordan in the Honda Integra.
