Thed Björk fastest at Sturup Raceway

Thed Björk is satisfied with his first official outing for Honda in the Swedish Touring Car Championship. The 2006 champion was fastest and actually broke the lap record at Sturup Raceway.
“It feels very nice that you don’t just pretend to be positive but that you actually can show that things are going well,” said Björk.

His record time was 1:01.512 which was a tenth faster than reigning champion Fredrik Ekblom.
“I hope he does not have that much more to give, then I will be irritated,” said Ekblom.

The Honda-driver was fast to reply:
“There is more to give, at least one and half tenth,” said Björk with a smile to STCC.se.

Third fastest was Alfa Romeo-man Mattias Andersson who is enjoying his new 156, the very same that James Thompson drove in the WTCC last year.
“There is a certain difference between this car and the one I drove last year. It feels good to be up in the top,” said Anderssson.

Robin Rudholm and Richard Göransson shared fourth place with the exact same time – 1:01.969. Göransson felt that there is more to give.
“I made a mistake on my fastest lap, but I know that we have more work to do. The qualifying pace is not there. We worked around the window where the car is at its best, but not in it,” said the double STCC-champion.

20-year-old Roger Eriksson had a rough time at Knutstorp, making his front wheel-drive debut with his 2008 specification SEAT Léon. During the last part of the test a crank shaft bearing failed. The team is currently on their way to Lichtenstein where their engine tuner is located.

Due to that the team will not be present at Knutstorp tomorrow for the second test day. The same story goes for the Volvo-team who instead will run their car at the Volvo-test track in Gothenburg. Volvo-driver Robert Dahlgren only drove two laps yesterday at Sturup before technical problems stopped them.
