Repair-race against time for Kristoffersson
Tommy Kristoffersson got the worst possible start to the Swedish Touring Car Championship 2008 season. Audi pulled out right after the 2007 season end and Kristoffersson was left to run a single Audi A4 to him self this year. One corner in to the first race and his car was crashed.
“It was a really big hit. You get scared and I was able to think, am I going to be unconcious,” said Kristoffersson to STCC.se.
Carl Rosenblad in his BMW 320si got a small slide in the first corner of the race and nudged Kristoffersson who span across the track in to the barriers. The Audi was then launched back to the track where Robert Dahlgren managed to hit him again.
“I saw in the corner of my eye that Dahlgren came towards me. I held braked as hard as I could so I would not slide further out on the track,” said Kristoffersson.
He was hit in the side of the car, only about one meter from the drivers door. After the race the car has been repaired for a total of 35.000 €.
“I have good contact with a great guy called Stefan Sjöberg. He has worked around the clock and changed his schedule to help us. Without him we would not have been able to fix the car,” said Kristoffersson.
The second race of the STCC is only days away. Sturup Raceway is the place for the race in the very south of Sweden and the team is working hard to finish everything in time.
“We have only done work on the body of the car so far. We have the mechanical stuff left like front suspension, brakes, gearbox, well basically everything. But we will be on the grid at Sturup, there is nothing else in our minds now,” said Kristoffersson.
The rear mounted camera of Janne “Flash” Nilsson’s car caught the accident shown in a video below:
