War of words between Dahlgren and Björk

Robert Dahlgren’s race ended in the gravel trap at Sturup Raceway during the second Swedish Touring Car Championship race 2008. The Volvo-man was fastest in the tests, took pole position and lead the race from the start. But Thed Björk ended the race for Dahlgren.
“It was the wrong race to be executed in, I cannot understand what Björk was thinking,” said a very angry Dahlgren after the race to STCC.se.

It was in the third corner of the track, a fast left-hander, that Björk launched his Honda Accord on the inside of Dahlgren’s Volvo C30. Björk had caught up with Dahlgren a couple of laps earlier and was noticeably quicker.

But the overtaking attempt ended in tears, Dahlgren was stranded in the gravel and Björk lost two places to Fredrik Ekblom and Mattias Andersson who lurked behind.
“I made an attempt and we could easily have gone two abreast in that corner,” said Björk.

Dahlgren on the other hand did, not surprisingly, disagree.
“It is impossible to go two abreast in that corner, there are a lot of rubber and dirt outside the racing line. If you drive there you can easily go off,” said Dahlgren.

Björk returned fire:
“I do not think Dahlgren saw me. I had shown my self earlier and positioned my self,” said Björk.

Dahlgren was of another opinion:
“You look in the rear view-mirror, brake, go down two gears quickly, turn in and full power again. You cannot look in the rear view-mirror all the time, unless you have made a mistake, just because there is an idiot behind you that has decided to take you off the track,” said Dahlgren.

Björk was involved in a similar incident two years ago at Knutstorp in the first race of the year. Then Björk threw his car very late on the inside of Rudholm who went off while Björk barely made the corner.
“Then Thed took the victory by doing the same thing on Rudholm as he did on me now. He is a tough driver and if I am behind him at Mantorp, he is going to get it. We have crash tested the front of the C30 and we know that it is strong,” said Dahlgren.

The stewards did not penalise Björk but judged it as a race incident. The saga continues at Mantorp Park in little less than two weeks.
