Rain handed pole to Engström at Mantorp

Rain decided the qualifying session at Mantorp Park for the third round of the Swedish Touring Car Championship 2008. Tomas Engström was first out in the Super Pole and it was only him and Tommy Rustad who managed to get laps on a dry track. Engström took pole position ahead of Rustad and Richard Göransson, who was fastest in the pre-qualifying, took third.

The entire pre-qualifying session was run under dry conditions. But shortly in to the Super Pole rain came over the track. Robin Rudholm and Janne “Flash” Nilsson spun in the greasy conditions but was able to continue.

Fredrik Ekblom took fourth position ahead of Thed Björk and Rudholm. Nilsson held seventh position but was moved down to twelfth after a penalty from last race.

Tomas Schie was third fastest in the pre-qualifying session but broke a damper in the very end of the session which prevented him from taking part in the Super Pole. The Norwegian will start seventh.

Robert Dahlgren in the Volvo C30 will start last, right next to Johan Stureson’s Peugeot 308. Both of them suffered from technical problems during the pre-qualifying session.

The race of the day starts at 15.00 CET.
