Race Preview: First street race ever for STCC
This weekend features a landmark event for the STCC. Not only does Gothenburg host it’s first STCC race it is also the first street race for the STCC. The track is 1.6km and is in a dock setting that will please all spectators. More than 25.000 of the available 30.000 tickets were reported to be sold last week which should promise for a really good event.
Previously at Gothenburg
Well… there is no previously at Gothenburg as such, this is a new track for 2008 and the first street race for the STCC. Flash Engineering have driven a lap of the new iconic circuit and kindly posted the video for all to see. You can see the video on TouringCarTimes to get a preview of the track and see what there is to expect on Sunday.
Season so far
Richard Göransson is leading the championship standings but is very close followed by Fredrik Ekblom and Robin Rudholm. Richard Göransson took over the championship lead with his second win of the season at Gelleråsen and leads by 3 points.
Quotes prior to the race
Richard Göransson – BMW 320si
“You have to be very humble before the task of learning the track. I have spoken a lot with my team mate Janne (Nilsson) who has done a lot of street races before. But when it is saturday and racetime, the more experienced street race drivers can forget there advantage, I’m going to be up there!”
Fredrik Ekblom – BMW 320si
“A street race is fun and it is going to be nice that it finally takes place after all the talk. This race gives as much points as the others. For sure a mistake here gives big consequenses, but you can never afford any mistakes in the STCC.”
Johan Stureson – Peugeot 307
“It is going to be very interesting, the other tracks in the championship you know very well, but a street race allows no mistakes and that usually draws many spectators. I think the track will suit our car.”
