Robert Dahlgren takes pole at Gothenburg

Volvo driver Robert Dahlgren took pole position for the race at Gothenburg, held to be this afternoon. A big contrast to yesterday, when Dahlgren crashed the car at the first corner and had to be taken to hospital. The mechanics worked hard to get the car back into shape for today, and were rewarded by their driver with a stunningly quick lap during Super Pole to take pole position for this afternoons race.

Robert Dahlgren was very pleased with his effort during Super Pole. “I’m very proud of my mechanics who have done a brilliant job of fixing my car after the crash yesterday. It was a very good lap and it looks promising for the race. I really look forward to it.” Dahlgren’s team mate Tommy Rustad had a more difficult time on the track, as he only managed to set 12th fastest time.

During most of the qualifying session, it was Thomas Schie who was the fastest man, with a slight advantage over Thed Björk. However, in the final seconds of the session, Richard Göransson jumped from 13th in the timetable to 1st.

Flash Engineering seemed to struggle during the first part of qualifying, where both cars were at the back of the field. However, just like his teammate Richard Göransson, Janne “Flash” Nilsson made a last effort to improve his time in the dying seconds of the race, and jumped from 14th to 10th.

Both WestCoast Racing cars made it into the top 8 and qualified for the Super Pole session. Robin Rudholm however didn’t start during this last session of qualifying, as he touched the barrier on his final lap and damaged his rear suspension. Fredrik Ekblom ended the qualifying in sixth place, and repeated this result during Super Pole.

Thomas Schie was last but one to start in the Super Pole session, and was on a flyer to set a good time, when his cold tyres made him slid wide at the penultimate corner. He touched the barriers hard and broke his left rear suspension. He finished his lap sliding through the last corner, but ended almost 2.5 seconds behind fastest man Dahlgren.

Last man on track during Super Pole was Richard Göransson. His cold tyres denied him a good lap as he had during the regular qualifying session. He ended his lap in a time just over 0.6s behind Dahlgren in fifth. He was however one place ahead of his main championship rival Fredrik Ekblom.

Johan Stureson and Carl Rosenblad both had the best qualifying result of the season so far. Stureson qualified in third, Rosenblad will start from fourth place on the grid. New man Andreas Simonsen was down in 15th in the KMS prepared Audi A4.

The race will start at 15:00 CET this afternoon.
