Ekblom wins and re-takes championship lead

Fredrik Ekblom won his second race of the year today at Falkenberg and re-took the championship lead. And it was double joy for the WestCoast Racing-team as Robin Rudholm claimed second place.
“I am very happy! The race was great, we gambled a bit with the tyres but it went well,” said Ekblom.

Rudholm was ahead of Ekblom after the pit stops, but let his team mate pass a few laps later.
“I am very pleased, we have done a good race and taken a double victory,” said Rudholm.

Carl Rosenblad took his first podium finish of the year in his privately owned BMW 320si ahead of previous championship leader Richard Göransson.
“This is wonderful! I want to dedicate this podium to Anders Olofsson,” said Rosenblad.

Göransson was a bit upset over Rosenblad who, according to the Flash Engineering-driver, made too big of a gap to the two WestCoast Racing-drivers in the restart after a safety car-session.
“Rosenblad slowed down in the restart, so I had no chance to try and challenge the WestCoast Racing-drivers. But I am pleased with fourth, we got important points for the championship,” said Rosenblad.

Flash Engineering filed a protest against Rosenblad, but at this moment no decision has been taken in the matter.

Tommy Rustad took fourth place after a hard fight involving Janne “Flash” Nilsson and his team mate Robert Dahlgren. The fight went in to the very last couple of laps, Rustad was able to keep ahead and “Flash” kept ahead of Dahlgren.

There were many drivers suffering from tyre puncture during the race. Pole-man Roger Eriksson got a puncture early on and had to pit before the pit stop window was open – destroying his chances for a finish high up. Thed Björk went off the track in a spectacular way due to a puncture and had to retire in the gravel trap.

Tobias Johansson finished tenth was the winning privateer driver in this race. The STCC now heads in to the summer break – returning at Gelleråsen on August 17th.
