New weights – FWD cars gets 15 kilos lighter
The Swedish Touring Car Championship organisers have decided to change the weights on the front and rear wheel driven cars. All front wheel driven cars, except for Alfa Romeo (Andersson) and Chevrolet (Schie), get minus 10 kilos. All rear wheel driven cars get plus 5 kilos, so in effect the front wheel driven cars get 15 kilos lighter compared to the rear wheel driven cars.
The previous result at the Falkenberg race seem to have influenced this decision when the BMW-cars took five of the top six places, including a 1-2-3-4.
Although this is not the reason according to the technical director of STCC – Johnny Haraldsson:
“These adjustments are made to keep the cars on a fair level. We have analyzed how the cars compare against each other this year and we have found that Chevrolet and Alfa Romeo have the right weight after our changes,” said Haraldsson to STCC.se.
Interesting enough the weight difference of the BMW 320si of Fredrik Ekblom and the Peugeot 308 of Johan Stureson is 100 kilos for the Gelleråsen race. Even if Sturesson would lead the championship and had won the last race, his car would only weigh 1140 kilos.
