“If it gets dirty, I have to sacrifice myself”
The championship battle in the Swedish Touring Car Championship between the two BMW-team, WestCoast Racing and Flash Engineering, is heating up. Speculations have according to STCC.se been made that WestCoast Racing has brought back Carl Rosenblad in the championship to help them.
“That is nothing that worries me, if it gets too dirty I will have to sacrifice myself. Then they can have as many extra drivers as they want,” said Jan “Flash” Nilsson of Flash Engineering to STCC.se.
WestCoast Racing ran Rosenblad’s car during the Falkenberg race earlier this year and also handled the pitstop for him. At Falkenberg Rosenblad finished third behind the two WestCoast Racing-driver Fredrik Ekblom and Robin Rudholm.
According to “Flash” there is no doubt that Rosenblad is here to help WestCoast Racing.
“Rosenblad is here to mess things up for Flash Engineering. He managed to do that at Falkenberg,” said “Flash”.
Flash Engineering filed a protest against Rosenblad for leaving too big of a gap to the WestCoast Racing-drivers with Flash Engineering-man Göransson behind him during a restart behind the safety car.
“I have nothing against extra drivers, what worries me is that they can do what they want and the race directors do nothing about it. At Falkenberg Rosenblad did not follow the rules and did not get penalized for it,” said “Flash”.
In the STCC-rules it is stated that a driver is not allowed to leave a gap bigger than one car length at any time during the safety car period.
But “Flash” has no doubt on what to do if things get drawn to the extreme.
“If it gets too dirty I will have to sacrifice my self and drive straight in to the side of Ekblom. Then it does not matter if I finish fifth or sixth in the championship. Then they can have as many extra drivers as they want,” said “Flash”.
The war of word is on between Flash Engineering and WestCoast Racing. What will be next?
