Richard Göransson wins at Knutstorp

Richard Göransson took an important win for the Swedish Touring Car Championship 2008 title fight as his main rivals Fredrik Ekblom and Thed Björk scored low.
“A victory with Ekblom taking zero points, can it be better? The win today was completely awesome, the guys did an amazing pitstop and I am in the lead with six points. I can almost not believe it,” said Göransson.

The race at Knutstorp was an eventful one. Robert Dahlgren held pole position but quickly faded and had to give way for Robin Rudholm and Göransson. Rudholm was the first one to pass Dahlgren, but lost the lead again when Göransson made a faster pitstop and got out ahead.
“It is hard to be happy with a second place after being in the lead. But the important thing are the points and I am now back in third place in the championship. It looks good for the final couple of races,” said Rudholm.

Dahlgren finished third behind the two BMW-men and was happy with the podium finish.
“This podium was worth more than fighting with Göransson and Rudholm who obviously were quicker. This podium almost feels like a victory today,” said Dahlgren.

Thomas Schie was not a happy man after the race today. The Chevrolet-driver started second but was penalised shortly in to the race. The Norwegian made a very big jump start and got a drive-through for it.

Tomas Engström finished fourth after a long battle with Janne “Flash” Nilsson, who finished fifth after starting eleventh.

Thed Björk finished a disappointing seventh, scoring two points. But things were worse for previous championship leader Fredrik Ekblom who scored zero points after an incident in the start. Because of that he had to pit to change the rear tyre, only to be forced in to the pits again due to loose bodywork.
“These things happen in racing. Of course I am disappointed with the result today,” said Ekblom.

Only two races remains of the championship this year and the next race is in two weeks at Våler, Norway.
