Penultimate round of 2008 in Norway

The Swedish Touring Car Championship goes to Norway for its only round outside the Swedish border. The Våler-track is the scene for the penultimate round of the STCC 2008. Last year rain affected the race heavily as a shower drew in over the track right before the start. For this year no rain is predicted.

Previously at Gelleråsen
Richard Göransson won the race last year after starting from the back of the grid. The team missed to get out to the grid on time and therefore got the opportunity to change to wet tyres which enabled Göransson to scream through the field to take the win.

Audi-man Frank Stippler came in second ahead of Robert Dahlgren who became victim of Stippler’s lapped team mate Tommy Kristoffersson who managed to bump in to the Volvo-driver.

The season so far
The championship lead changed once again after the race at Knutstorp. Richard Göransson took over the lead ahead of Fredrik Ekblom. Göransson heads the championship with six points over Ekblom with two races to go and 20 points still to be raced over.

The previous race at Knutstorp saw Richard Göransson emerging as winner. The Flash Engineering-man passed Robin Rudholm who held the lead before the pitstops. Thanks to a quicker stop for Göransson he was ahead of Rudholm when the WestCoast Racing-driver pitted one lap later.

Dahlgren held pole position but had to give way for both Rudholm and Göransson early in the race. The Volvo-driver eventually finished third.

Four drivers still have the chance of winning the STCC 2008 – Göransson, Ekblom, Thed Björk and Rudholm. 11 points separates the four and there are 20 points still to be gained in the last two races. Göransson can decide the title at Våler, can anyone stop him?
