BELL Aiming for a Solid Finale at Brands
Arkas Racing man Martyn Bell, heads back to Brands Hatch with high hopes in the final HiQ MSA British Touring car championship rounds and is hopeful of a strong finish to his third year in the series.
Martyn made his debut for the Arkas Racing with Sunshine.co.uk team at the Kent circuit back in March, which marked the start of his first season of racing in front-wheel drive machinery.
Although he was forced out of the first race after an incident with Alan Taylor, Martyn went on to secure two solid finishes in his Vauxhall Astra Sport Hatch in the second and third races and will look to improve on his results in the final rounds of the year.
With team-mate Erkut having announced that he will sit out the 2009 season, the weekend will mark Martyn’s final outing in Arkas Racing colours and with that in mind, he heads to Brands keen to help the team maintain its current position in the Independents’ points standings.
Martyn will also try and secure an overall points finish for himself in the Tech-Speed run Astra Sport Hatch as he seeks to end his season on a high.
“I go into our second visit to Brands Hatch with high hopes,” he admitted. “There is a lot to play for in the Independents’ championship and we will be doing the best we can to ensure the team finishes as high as possible. The guys at the front have the title to fight for so I’ll be keeping out of their way, but I have my own targets of who I want to beat and I’m confident that I can do it. I am really up for this weekend and I’m going for a top ten finish to finish the year; I feel we can do it.
“We’ll be able to use the weekend as a bit of a measuring stick to see how I have progressed with front-wheel drive over the course of the season and I’m hopeful of a good weekend on my final outing in the Arkas Racing Astra.”
Martyn will again be cheered on by a large contingent of fans and sponsors on Finals Day and will sit down with his backers after the weekend is done to start planning for 2009.
“The support of my sponsors has been fantastic again this year and a lot of them will be coming along for the final weekend of the year,” he said. “They will ultimately decide my future in the BTCC going forwards, but I’m going to get Brands Hatch out of the way and then sit down and start discussing the options for 2009.”
