Dahlgren wins the final at Mantorp

Robert Dahlgren took his second win of the year in the final race of the Swedish Touring Car Championship 2008. The race was one of the most eventful races of the year.
“Awesome! This victory is one of my best ever. The season finished in quite a nice way,” said Dahlgren.

Fredrik Ekblom held pole position, but was passed by the super starting Jan “Flash” Nilsson who managed to get in to the lead in the first corner from seventh on the grid. But Ekblom managed to get back to second place before the finish of the race.

“Second place is okay and it was really nice to be able to secure the team championship for WestCoast Racing,” said Ekblom.

Thed Björk finished third and secured third in the championship. But it was not until the end of the race that Björk managed to get through the mayhem up to third.

“I am more than happy to finish third after starting 12th,” said Björk.

Dahlgren’s team mate Tommy Rustad had yet another DNF. The front suspension broke on the Volvo C30 and the Norwegian planted his car in the tyre barriers when being in second position in the race.

Johan Stureson finished fourth ahead of Thomas Schie and Richard Göransson. The new champion Göransson had an eventful race. Initially he fought hard for the top positions but was penalized for unfair driving with a drive-through.

“Never mind this race, the season has been completely awesome! My third STCC-title is my best one so far. Now it’s time for a huge party,” said Göransson.

His team mate Nilsson was also penalized with a drive-through. The BMW-man managed to stop in the wrong pit space in the heat of the moment.

Robin Rudholm was the third victim of penalties. The WestCoast Racing-driver locked his brakes and slid in to the back of the driver in front of him which the stewards decided to give him a 30-second penalty.
