Volvo signs Dahlgren for three new years

Robert Dahlgren has signed three more years with the Swedish Touring Car Championship Volvo-team Polestar Racing. 2009 will be the fifth year for Dahlgren behind the wheel of a Volvo in STCC.
“This is a good long term deal and it creates the ground for being able to work 100% on producing results,” said Dahlgren.

Polestar and Dahlgren made debut with the C30-model in STCC 2008. Dahlgren finished fifth in the championship after a struggling start of the season. But the team turned things around at the end of the season by winning the two final races. For next year the goal is gold.

“Consistency is what we need to take the STCC-gold next year. Dahlgren is on top of my list, he is quick, he is an ambassador for Volvo and he is extremely good to give feedback to the engineers,” said team boss Christian Dahl.

If the Norwegian Tommy Rustad will remain in the team is still uncertain. But Dahl is aiming to keep the same driver setup for 2009.

“He did a really good job this season despite not getting enough mileage in the car. We see a strength in continuing to build the team around the same driver setup and as far as I know Rustad’s ambition is to stay in the team,” said Dahl.

Polestar Racing is keeping a tight test schedule for next year. The team has completed eight test sessions since the season end of 2008.
