Thompson pleased with Dynamics test

James Thompson tested the Team Dynamics Honda Civic at a damp Donington Park today. The 34-year-old Brit was pleased with the test and is considering a British Touring Car Championship return.
“It’s possible I could come back, for sure. At the moment I’m still contracted to N-Technology but there is no programme,” said Thompson to BTCC.net.

Thompson drove for N-Technology in the World Touring Car Championship this year. But it has been indicated that N-Technology could be out of the WTCC next year, which is why Thompson is checking for new drives.

If Thompson returns to the BTCC, he is aiming for nothing else but a launch at the title.

“Based on what I’ve seen during this test and the motivation I’ve seen inside the team to win the championship I couldn’t think of any better place to be than Dynamics. If I came back I wouldn’t want it to be just because I’ve nothing else to do. It would be to have a proper go at the title.

“Steve Neal (Dynamics boss) is very keen to have me in the car which I really appreciate. I enjoyed the test today, the car has the potential to win the title and I’ve just got see what happens in the next few weeks regards the World series and suchlike.

“When you look at all the great names on list of BTCC race winners it’s got tremendous appeal… and of course the likes of Jason (Plato) have gotten ahead of me on that list. It’d be nice to pull them back in a bit!”

Last time Thompson took part in the BTCC was 2006 when he only did half a season. Thompson has won the BTCC-title twice, in 2002 and 2004.

While his most recent racer has been the bigger Honda Accord, Thompson says he enjoyed the smaller Civic.

“The car felt very good and has a lot of potential. I was very impressed with the base package of the car, then we made some changes and worked through a programme of things. I was really, really pleased. It was a very productive test.

“The Civic has lots of similarities to the others I’ve raced. A good car is always a good car. But any car can always be better and the key thing is to have the team with the working mentality of constantly wanting to develop further and always thinking ‘how can we be faster’? That’s something you can see in the people at Dynamics. All said, it’s a genuinely exciting prospect to come and have a crack at the championship with a team that’s highly motivated to do it.”
