Roberto Colciago back in STCC with Honda?

While the majority of the big teams in the Swedish Touring Car Championship have announced their program for 2009, one team still have not: Honda Racing. Last year Thed Björk and team owner Tomas Engström drove a pair of Honda Accords. But after Björk’s exit to Flash Engineering, the question is who Engström’s new team mate will be. Recent rumors have pointed out previous STCC-champion and Italian Roberto Colciago.

Björk left the Honda-team for Flash Engineering recently and speculations have run hot. But team owner and driver Engström is calm.

“We were going to reveal our plans before christmas, but we will wait a couple of days now. But you will not be disappointed,” said Engström to DT.se.

Just as the rumors placing Björk at Flash Engineering, rumors of Colciago returning to the STCC and the Honda-team has been going on for long.

Colciago drove in the Swedish championship for Audi in 2001 and 2002, taking the title both years. Since then he has won the Italian championship and taken part in a couple of WTCC-races, for SEAT most recently.

But rumors have also indicated that Engström could be back with just one car in his team. The financial situation has hit the Japanese manufactures especially hard, for some reason, and although Engström’s Honda-program in STCC is backed by Honda Sweden and not Japan, the questionmarks are still there.
