Olsson looks forward to Volkswagen debut
Patrik Olsson makes his debut in the Swedish Touring Car Championship 2009 in the very new Volkswagen-team. The 20-year-old Swede has previously driven VW Polo Cup in Germany but is currently working on his return to the Swedish racing scene.
“I think I am pretty unknown to most of the drivers in STCC, but it is up to me to prove what I can do,” said Olsson.
Olsson will team up with three time STCC champion Fredrik Ekblom and the both will drive brand new bio-gas powered Volkswagen Scirocco.
“Ekblom is one of the best drivers in STCC and he has a lot of experience. He will be a big help as he knows all tracks inside out. It is very exciting to have him in the team, everybody wants to beat an old champion,” said Olsson with a smile.
The new S2000 Scirocco is scheduled to be ready in the first week of April. The two cars are currently being build in Hanover, Germany. Their first appearance on the Swedish tracks will be during the first official test at Mantorp on the 15th of April.
“We have a brand new car that still is not completed. It will of course be a while until we are competitive,” said Olsson.
The final rules regarding the bio-gas in STCC are still not completed. The car is turbo charged and it remains to be seen how STCC is going to control the turbo pressure and the bio-gas mixture.
