Saab entry confirmed with Jens Edman
Dealer Sport Saab Performance have confirmed their entry of the 2009 Swedish Touring Car Championship. As expected with Jens Edman will be behind the wheel.
“I am really looking forward to go back home again after racing six years abroad,” said Edman.
The plans were confirmed an event at Saab´s facilities in Trollhättan, Sweden, yesterday. Team owner Jan Warnestad is proud over the project.
“Where other than Trollhättan, the home of Saab, to reveal the program. We started working on it in march 2008 and kept the lid on. We wanted it to go off like a bomb, and it did,” said Warnestad to ttela.se.
Last time Edman drove a complete STCC season was in 2001 when he finished third in the championship. Then his employer was named Volvo, the year after he switched to DTC where he stayed for six years.
“It will really motivate me to race at home, in Sweden. We will fight even though it will be tough with a brand new car. Everything is not prepared, so we will start at zero and fight with cars which are already developed. But it will be fun to be part of it and be part of the development of the car especially,” said Edman to sportinformation.com.
The team plans to complete a number of tests ahead of the STCC season start at Mantorp Park on may the 1st.
It is yet unknown in what way Saab is involved in the project. The likely scenario is that they are not involved in any way other than the initial building of the car due to the deep financial crisis the Swedish car manufacturer currently is in.
The car was built at Saab prototype workshop in Trollhättan, but will be serviced at the Dealer Sport Saab Performance in Karlstad.
