Ekblom: “I will have to change for the VW”

Fredrik Ekblom will be on the grid of the Swedish Touring Car Championship 2009 with a brand new Volkswagen Scirocco, powered by bio gas. The three times STCC champion is used to drive different type of racing cars.
“I am prepared to change my driving style again. To drive bio gas powered car is a completely new experience,” said Ekblom.

During the last couple of years Ekblom has driven a rear wheel driven BMW. Before that he drove a front wheel driven Audi and before that a four wheel driven Audi in STCC.

“The biggest difference with the bio gas engine is to find the drive ability and torque. I would like to believe that the engine resembles a diesel engine. I drove a BMW diesel in the 24 hours race of Nürburgring last year and then you had no effect at all and then everything at once,” said Ekblom.

The testing of the new car has not begun yet. It will being during the month of April.

“If the engine has got the previously mentioned characteristics, we have to work hard to get rid of it,” said Ekblom.

The ambition of the team is none other than to be in the very top of the STCC field.

“If you are to get that last tenth of the car and be in the top, you have to adapt to the car and its characteristics,” said Ekblom.
