No Opel for Billi Jonasson

There will be no Billi Jonasson in the Swedish Touring Car Championship this year despite the previous announcements. Jonasson got an offer from Team Huggare to drive an Opel Astra this year if he managed to get 50 000 euro.
“We have got around half of the sum, but with only a couple of weeks left we will not make it to the grid,” said Jonasson to helagotland.se.

Team Huggare has moved over to Opel after running one BMW for Viktor Huggare in the privateers championship, Semcon Cup, last year.

Viktor Huggare is going to drive the Opel Astra that Tommy Rustad drove in the STCC 2007.

Jonasson was supposed to drive the even older Opel Astra Coupé that was used in the STCC 2006. While Jonasson says he is now looking at continuing in the support series Ginetta Cup, team boss Håkan Huggare says that the door is not closed for Jonasson.

“The door is not closed. If they get the required funds, then we are still optimistic,” said Huggare.
