Engine problems for Micke Ohlsson
Swedish Touring Car Championship newcomer Micke Ohlsson has got his first setback already ahead of the season start. Ohlsson blew his Peugetot 407 engine during the pre season test at Knutstorp.
“It was very unfortunate! We are racing against time to get the new engine ready for the race this weekend,” said Ohlsson to TouringCarTimes.com.
A new engine is on its way to Sweden currently and the mechanics are going to have a tough job to get the Peugeot 407 ready for the premiere race at Mantorp on saturday.
Ohlsson has switched to the STCC this year from Carrera Cup Scandinavia and has a lot of new things to get used to.
“It is really a big job to get used to the front wheel drive! The car is really good but I have personally more work left to adapt to the required driving style,” said Ohlsson.
The biggest difference according to Ohlsson is the grip level on new tyres.
“The grip level on those few laps when the tyres are brand new is just phenomenal! The Peugeot has got a really good chassis and I think things will be much better as the season progresses,” said Ohlsson.
Ohlsson is fighting in the privateers championship, Semcon Cup, among drivers like Johan Kristoffersson, Audi, and Viktor Hallrup, BMW.
“We have some really strong drivers in the championship! I have raced against both Kristoffersson and Hallrup before and they are very fast drivers,” said Ohlsson.
Due to the engine problems Ohlsson’s expectations are modest for the first race.
“I am still not fully confident in the car and the engine problems are not going to make things easier. But it is my first season and we are going to keep in there and work hard to make everything better,” said Ohlsson.
