Göransson leads BMW 1-2-3 at Mantorp

Reigning champion Richard Göransson was first of three BMW’s in the second Swedish Touring Car Championship race of the year at Mantorp Park. Flash Engineering drivers Thed Björk and Jan “Flash” Nilsson finished second and third.
“A great result! Björk was close but I was able to hold it and I am over the moon with this weekend,” said Göransson.

Mattias Andersson initially held the lead of the race. But after a light touch from “Flash”, the Alfa Romeo driver was passed by “Flash”, Göransson and Björk.

Björk then started a chase, just like the in first race, after Göransson. During the three final laps Björk was all over Göransson, but a small mistake on the last lap from Björk stopped him from trying to pass the WestCoast Racing driver.

“Of course it would have been nice to win, but I wanted to secure the points in the drivers and team championship. It is great to be on the podium with my team mate,” said Björk.

“Flash” managed to secure third place behind Björk, securing the team championship lead and 10 000 euro to Flash Engineering.

“A tough race but really nice to be on the podium in our first race together,” said a happy “Flash”.

Tommy Rustad drove over the finish line in fourth while his team mate Robert Dahlgren had to retire early on due to engine problems.

Andersson was passed by Rustad in the closing stages of the race and finished fifth ahead of SEAT driver Roger Eriksson.

Johan Stureson secured eight place ahead of the bio gas powered Fredrik Ekblom. Tomas Engström rounded off top ten ahead of Robin Rudholm who had a terrible weekend with no points.

The next STCC race takes place at Gelleråsen on May the 22/23rd.
