Andersson fuming after “Flash” crash
Mattias Andersson was left fuming after the second race of the Swedish Touring Car Championship premiere. Andersson lead the race initially ahead of Jan “Flash” Nilsson. But five laps in to the race “Flash” gave Andersson a nudge and Andersson dropped to fourth.
“This is the third time he hits me while I am in the lead!” said a fuming Andersson to nt.se after the race.
The Alfa Romeo driver is still chasing his first STCC victory. Ironically “Flash” has been behind Andersson the last three times when he was in the lead and given him a nudge.
“I am not surprised, he has that driving style. He goes over the limit a little too often,” said Andersson.
Andersson finished fifth in the race while “Flash” finished third. The stewards of the race did not issue a penalty for the incident and “Flash” was of another opinion than Andersson.
“Andersson is a great driver but he has got a defensive driving style, he is probably the worst in the championship. He is most likely angry at me, but I gave him two laps. After that I gave him a push to avoid being hit by the cars that had gathered in a long line behind me,” said “Flash”.
Last time “Flash” and Andersson clashed was at Knutstorp in 2007 when “Flash” crossed the line first but was later disqualified.
“It is all about eat or be eaten and it is too bad that I have been the one that pushed him when he has been in the lead, but that is just chance,” said “Flash”.
Andersson accepts the stewards decision not to penalize “Flash” and is looking forward to the coming race instead.
“I think it was a bit unfair, in my opinion he was no that close. But the stewards think it was okay and if you look at the results, then we were where we expected,” said Andersson to the official championship website.
The incar movie of Jan “Flash” Nilsson shows the incident:
