Richard Göransson: “I am pissed off”
Reigning champion Richard Göransson had a poor weekend at Gelleråsen and scored only four points. The WestCoast Racing driver was penalized in the first race with a drive through penalty.
“I am pissed off, we did a good job but we got a penalty that I do not understand. It feels like the judgers have marked me,” said Göransson to the official championship website.
Göransson was penalized due to not performing the start correctly. The BMW man moved out of his line in the start, something the German Frank Stippler was penalized for in 2007.
“I find it inconsequent, they only picked me because of a non correct start, if I was placed wrong there should have been more that should have been penalized.
There is someone among the judgers at Gelleråsen that does not like me, this is not the first time I get a penalty there,” said Göransson.
Mikael Andreasson, Race director of Gelleråsen, explains how the situation was judged.
“There is a clear rule that you are not allowed to pass the center of the track in the start. Göransson did this and was awarded a penalty,” said Andersson.
Göransson focuses on the coming race in Gothenburg instead, a race weekend he promises a double victory from.
“Thed’s (Björk) championship lead and Flash’s record is going to get smoked in Gothenburg. The west coast belongs to WestCoast Racing,” said Göransson.
Göransson is closing in on Jan “Flash” Nilsson’s all time victory record of the STCC. “Flash” has taken 30 victories and Göransson needs two more to beat him.
