Rustad wins for Volvo in Gothenburg
There was no stopping Tommy Rustad in the first Gothenburg race of the day. The Volvo man won the race with 1.5 seconds ahead of Thed Björk and Mattias Andersson.
“Perfect! This was for sure a dream coming through. I cannot thank my team enough for this,” said Rustad.
Björk put some pressure on Rustad in the first part of the race but had to settle for second.
“This almost feels like a victory as I’m five kilos from max weight! My closest competitors got no points, perfect,” said Björk.
Andersson was passed by Björk at the start and claimed his first podium of the year after a strong drive in third.
“I was a bit too careful in the start. But it fantastic to be on the podium,” said Andersson.
Roger Eriksson claimed fourth after a hard four car battle with Thomas Schie, Johan Stureson and Tomas Engström. Eriksson was able to get past Schie on the final couple of laps in the final corner of the track.
Fredrik Ekblom claimed the first points ever for the Volkswagen Biogas.se team in eight and is going to start from pole for the second race.
The race was a tough one for Robert Dahlgren. He started tenths and fought his way up through the field only to get a drive through. The penalty was because of an incident with Richard Göransson.
Dahlgren went for the inside of Göransson in the final corner which resulted in a spin for Göransson. There were yellow flags in that corner at that moment which resulted in the penalty for Dahlgren.
WestCoast Racing had a hard race with both drivers out side the points. Göransson ninth and Robin Rudholm tenth.
