First points for Volkswagen in Gothenburg

Fredrik Ekblom scored the first points ever for the Volkswagen team during the Swedish Touring Car Championship race at Gothenburg.
“I am pleased with the weekend and we completed our main goal, to score points,” said Ekblom.

Ekblom finished eight in the first race, securing one point and pole position for the second race.

The triple STCC champion was in top three for a good portion of the race before he was hit several times and lost a lot of places.

“We looked set for a podium, but when the cars behind start pushing there is not much to do about it,” said Ekblom.

Before the Gothenburg race the team got rid of the 50 kilos of extra weight that was given to them by the STCC organization due to the lack of information given about the car.

But after more information was released, the rear diffuser was removed and a smaller air restrictor was fitted, the STCC organization granted the team the removal of the 50 kilos.

“What we have gained in weight, we have lost in less engine power. But we are in for the fight for real now, there will be more points,” said Ekblom.
