Richard Göransson: “I am not stressed”
Reigning champion promised two victories last weekend and to beat Jan “Flash” Nilsson’s victory record of 30 victories. But instead “Flash” won his 31’st and Göransson failed to reach the podium despite an almost empty weight box.
“I am not stressed. There is no reason, the record is going to be beaten,” said Göransson to STCC.se.
Despite the failure to reach the podium, Göransson is confident for the rest of the season.
“I am gaining on the lead and I feel rather comfortable,” said Göransson.
Göransson was involved in a lot of incidents during the race weekend at Knutstorp, two incidents with Volvo driver Tommy Rustad and most noticeably the incident with Björk.
“What happened this weekend had nothing to do with stress. It felt like I was at the wrong place at the wrong time during many parts of the race,” said Göransson.
The incident with Björk has been debated after the race and Göransson felt that he undeservingly got blamed for.
“I am made the villain in the incident. I have driven so much together with Björk and I have never taken him out purposely, it has always been hard but not ugly.
We went along side over the crest, I hold my lind to take the corner and it feels like the tyres tangle, I spun and Björk went in to the barriers. The incident did not feel and did not look as it was anyones fault,” said Göransson.
Göransson is currently fifth in the championship, 12 points from championship leader Björk.
“There is still a good chance, I gained three points this weekend. Falkenberg is a new challenge,” said Göransson.
