Göransson wins eventful race at Falkenberg
Richard Göransson secured his second win of the year and closed in on the top of the championship. But the driver scoring the most points this weekend was Tommy Rustad, who finished second in this race behind Göransson.
“A fantastic weekend! This race was much tougher than the first one and it feels nice to take a win before the summer break,” said Göransson.
Göransson made a good start and was up behind pole man Tomas Engström quickly.
The Honda driver made a good job of defending his lead for a good number of laps before Göransson made his move.
“Engström had apparently decided to brake latest of all. But I am really pleased with my move on him,” said Göransson.
As Göransson had passed Engström, Tommy Rustad and Thed Björk quickly got in to a fight withthe Honda driver. Rustad passed Björk with a nice move on the outside in the first corner before getting past Engström.
“It was a hard fight, but I am extremely pleased with this weekend and I have gained on Björk in the championship,” said Rustad.
Björk got past Engström a couple of laps later after a light tap on the back of Engström.
“What a race, cars everywhere! It has been a good weekend and I am still in the lead of the championship,” said Björk.
Engström eventually finished fourth ahead of Robin Rudholm and Pontus Mörth. Mattias Andersson finished seventh ahead of the impressive privateer Audi driver Andreas Simonsen.
Patrik Olsson and Johan Kristoffersson rounded off top ten.
The two championship contenders Jan “Flash” Nilsson and Robert Dahlgren were left without points. Dahlgren failed to start the race due to his engine problems in race one. “Flash” collided with Rudholm in the start and got out of the first corner dead last.
